Subject: BBQ - where were you? For those of you who didn't make it to the Dobbo BBQ here's a quick summary. Fri night and a quiet start with Dobbo, Stu, Wenders and myself, meeting Gav and Sarah at the Gordons, a few beers and then off to Dhaka. Neither had changed must, but the Dhaka is nicer inside, and has a new menu - which Rich claimed to be a consultant on. Sat moring and Rich, Stu, and I head of too bbq shop while Wenders waits for the J's to go shopping. A very large shop later, which Rich suggested we spoof for, with furthest away from the price paid for it - the bill is in the post to Stu. Back to chez Dobbo and suprisingly Wenders is still waiting for the J's. Stu and I set about building the new barby, firstly by throwing away the instructions and relying on our technical knowledge to build a better one - 'where's the floppy drive Stu'. All we needed was one screwdriver, asking Rich, he gets a kit from his younger housemate (also from telsis, also called Richard). I spend some time trying to work out how to use this screwdriver, and Stu even more time to mend it after I'd buggered it up - 'what idiot designed this'. Barby was soon fully setup and no bits left over so presumably we were close to the intended design. We then set about preparing salad etc, but then with most things setup we decided it was time to eat and send Stu to Macdonalds. 2pm and start of bbq arrived but no guests yet, so Stu and I sat in garden and stopped being helpers and became guest with Dobbo running around us (well almost). The J's had arrived just before and Jacks informed us of the need for a major shop, Wenders, Rich's Mum and sister were also going so we invited Jonnie to stay with the lads and have a few beers. He amazingly declined and set of for an afternoon shopping with the women. Guests soon started to arrive and party got into full swing. With lots of nurses, Royster plus Sara love of his life (also a Chelsea fan), a quite pregnant Ali plus partner, Sophia, Kirk, Sly, Al and Jill, Vinnie, Gavin The Highlander (dressing in black with short greying hair, prompting choruses of 'who wants to live forever'), Michele plus man (their car had blown up on the M27, but had talked AA into taking them to party and picking them up the next day), Chrissie, Natasha and many more besides. Many bbq's and beers later a few of us set of to Lennards - eventually joined by everyone else, only after police had visited party though and given us their official stamp of approval. We were the only ones at Lennards to start with as we realised it was only 10.30, so we played a large game of thumb spoof to entertain us, some very good rounds, with ceiling thumb making some of the girls struggle a bit and nearly getting us all chucked out. Then came funniest bit of evening, I was at the bar and had yet to speak to Vinnie who arrived quite late. He was walking past me so I gave him a little slap, he looked at me and said 'do I know you?' at this moment a bird walking between us, he looked at her and said 'do I know you?', she said 'no' so he smoothly put his arm round her and said 'you will do'. Thinks seemed to be going well so I went over to meet Gill (Al's intended), we were chatting and Vinnie came running past screaming 'she grabbed my cock, she grabbed my cock' Gill wanted to know what, whom and why, I explained to her and she made a very good first impression by then mercilessly taking the piss out of Vinnie. Then a little while later Vinnie again, this time in front of me and Sly, he moves in on another girl, things aren't going to well though. Here's where things aren't too clear, he brings Rich over to her and is either explianing that he has never pulled in front of Rich and would she oblige or else he's saying look at this guy, I'm much better than him so how about it? Things seemed to pick up, but not for long. This is the pattern of the night and later poor Vinnie is astonished that yet again he fails in front of the lards, respect for effort though. No curry tonight and off home, later I'm asleep alone (really) in the box room when Kirk and Julie come in, she asks if I need all the room, I says no of course not but they decide to find somewhere else 'alone', this means the garden - apart from the J's in their tent that is. I was a little drowsy/beered up, but I might of missed something here, Kirk should of explained to me bluntly if he wanted the room, however I think he'll thank me later. Sunday is a bit of clearing up and eating any food left, then a quick though tight and lager effected squash victory over Dobbo and then back to sunny manc land. A good weekend was had by all, book your places for next year, although who knows Dobbo could be in Oz or somewhere by then. Roj
