I recently had to write an ISAPI filter for a web site, and if you haven't tried it not very easy to do. You have to write in it C++ and don't try to use a wizard but instead create a bare DLL, also it runs at such a low level its impossible to debug. In fact if it wasn't for the excellent blog by Microsoft's David Wang I doubt I would have finished it, you can see David's blog at : blogs.msdn.com/david.wang. |

I installed Windows Vista soon after its release to business, and like many others I installed it to a blank hard drive after first unplugging my XP hard drive. After testing out Vista with all my hardware I decided it was pretty good and I’d like to use it straight away. But I had two hard drives both wanting to boot to different OSes, and I don’t want to keep physically switching my active hard drive between the XP and Vista ones. I wanted to dual boot my PC. This used to be easy, but Vista ignores the boot.ini file and introduces its own boot manager. Fortunately I wasn’t the first to try this and I found a very quick solution on the ProNetworks forum. www.pro-networks.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=84455. Now I have a nice boot screen in which I can select either OS to be default, or select either at boot time. |

I didn't publicise it at the time, but last year I wrote a PDA version of the very popular MBC message forum, I had recently got a new phone (a Motorola V3i), which was able to support the Opera mini browser www.operamini.com (this is excellent and supports web as well as WAP pages). PDA sites (like the BBC’s www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/pda view very well via the Opera browser). So to keep upto date with this active forum I wrote the following PDA resource. |

I've finally got around to updating my website, I never have much time to spend on maintaining this anymore, so I've turned it into a weblog, based on the very popular discussion forum I wrote for the Manchester Baseball club (here's the proof ).
The web site in now totally ASP driven, but I did actually write it in .NET, only to find that my web hosting provider didn't support all the things I had written, so I've had to revert to ASP for now. It’s much quicker and easier to now add content to the site, so I should be able to post much more often. |
